SETTLEMENT AUGUST 2020. Represented the family of a man killed during a motorcycle vacation in Bend, Oregon. He had struck a deer and was trying to get up off the road when a woman driving a pickup ran over him.
The case was subject to Oregon’s cap on damages. Settlement for $675,000 in August 2020, co-counsel Greg Zeuthen of Portland.
SETTLEMENT AUGUST 2019. $1.75 million pre-litigation settlement in maritime wrongful death claim where worker was struck by line that snapped while docking a tug boat.
Products liability claim is under investigation.
Recent Cases
VERDICT DELIVERED FEBRUARY 2019: $123 million jury verdict, plus over $10 million in settlements. On September 24, 2015, the worst mass transit disaster in Seattle history occurred when a Ride the Ducks amphibious vehicle full of tourists suffered a catastrophic axle fracture on the Aurora Bridge and crashed into a Motor Coach carrying international students from North Seattle College. A total of five students were killed and 70 others injured.
SETTLEMENT DECEMBER 2017. Mother and son died in a condominium fire started by a downstairs neighbor, and did not escape in time because the homeowners association failed to install mandatory common area smoke detectors. Multi-million dollar recovery for the surviving spouse and son.
SETTLEMENT MAY 2018. I represented the family of a brilliant young woman who recently graduated from Columbia University and moved home to Seattle to live with her family. Just months after starting her new life, she drowned during a beginner Scuba class after her instructor lost track of the class. The case settled early in litigation for $1,000,000 policy limits.

At 17, Emeka Megwa was living a boy’s dream. Chicago-born and Texas-raised, the nationally touted running back stepped from a gangway into a seaplane on the shore of Seattle’s sparkling Lake Union three summers ago.
An Oklahoma football player reportedly has filed a civil lawsuit against the University of Washington for medical negligence when he played for the Huskies.
The Seattle Times reported Thursday that current Oklahoma Sooners running back Emeka Megwa, who played for the Huskies from 2021-22, is suing the university and “nine current or former members of its sports medicine staff, coaching staff, athletic trainers and physical therapists” for negligence in rehabilitating an ACL injury he suffered in June 2021, leading to its reinjury in March 2022.

A jury has awarded $215,000 to three families of patients who were exposed to Aspergillus mold in Seattle Children’s operating rooms in 2019 — a fungus that has plagued the region’s largest pediatric hospital off and on for more than 20 years.

SEATTLE — In a lawsuit filed Thursday against Seattle University, four former and current students say the school was deceptive, promising a degree that none of the students ever received.

EPHRATA — A Grant County woman on Friday was found responsible for the death of her husband-uncle in a rare civil murder case.
In November 2019, Seattle Children’s Hospital shocked the public by admitting its hospital had been contaminated with Aspergillus mold since 2001 which sickened and caused the death of numerous child patients.
