My practice is about building a safer community.
Laws educate people about what is expected of them, which primarily means respecting the rights and safety of others so that each person and family can dream and prosper on their own path. I hold those who violate the law, through carelessness or misconduct, accountable in the civil justice system. By enforcing the rules, my professional goal is to protect the community from similar wrongdoing in the future.
My mission as a lawyer is simple: relentless pursuit and presentation of the truth, and nurturing client relationships. My clients trust me. I am direct with them even when it may hurt to hear, and they know it comes from a place of support. I am brash as an advocate because I only take on cases and clients I believe in. Outside of work I spend my time with my wife Courtney, our two little girls, and our toddler son. Courtney is a brilliant lawyer and the most thoughtful person I’ve ever met. I really like doing my girls’ hair. They are totally different but best of friends. My son is feisty with a big noggin, just like me. We recently had to re-home our dogs, because well, three little kids.
I’ve played guitar for about 15 years. My favorite guitar is my baby blue Fender fat strat. I have a Fender tube amp that, for household sanity reasons, cannot be turned up to 11, so I use several pedals to get the sound I want for blues and classic rock.
More recently, I’ve become more handy than I ever dreamed possible, thanks largely to YouTube. My garage is filled with tools I now rarely have time to use. I like improvement projects but hate plumbing—not because it’s gross but because there are way too many types of everything.
My peaceful place is around the water—it is part of my soul. I am a PADI certified Divemaster with specialty certifications in equipment and wreck diving, and have logged over 200 open water dives over 20 years. Underwater is the only place I can meditate.
