Things that make me feel old

I’m in Waikoloa, HI right now and went on a dive. Someone asked me how long I’ve been diving. The words “21 years” came out of my mouth. What?! I used to marvel at anyone who has done anything for 21 years. For some reason it took me by surprise that I’m old enough that I could’ve started any kind of activity requiring some degree of maturity, 21 years ago.

The second time I felt old this week was when every other person here with a snorkel is taking underwater pictures somehow. When I started diving (“back in my day”), if you wanted to take a 2 megapixel photograph underwater you needed a $2,000 camera and a $3,000 case. Now, anybody with a cell phone and a magnetically sealed bag can be an underwater photographer. I just now had this epiphany, so I went and got such a bag and tried kid things like selfies. Apparently I need a selfie stick for that. Anyway, got some sea creatures too.
